# Create product types
**Definition**
Product types refer to a pre-defined set of characteristics or attributes that describe a specific category of products within a larger product line. They are used to create a standardized list of details for products, which can be used to simplify the process of creating new products by allowing you to reuse existing codes, attributes, and configurations.
**Create Product Types**
To create a product type, click on resources & then product types.
It will open up a list of categories and default product types created by .STUDIO.
You can either choose to edit the existing product type by clicking on edit under actions.
Add the default codes, the attributes and the notes for that product type & then click on update.
To create a new product type, click on Add product type & follow the same instructions as edit product type.
**Add or edit category**
You can also add new category or edit existing categories.
To add new category, click on add new category,
Add in the required information.
You can choose the parent category if its a sub category or you can keep it blank if its a main category and click on save.
